Serpentine North Gallery

Board of Ordnance; original architect unknown · London, United Kingdom · 1805

A former gunpowder store was adapted into a gallery, with Zaha Hadid adding a flowing white restaurant pavilion beside its masonry walls. The contrast between the historic magazine and the tensile-looking extension makes the project a compact example of old and new architecture working together. The conversion opened in 2013.
