Antwerp Port House

Zaha Hadid Architects · Antwerp, Belgium · 2016

Zaha Hadid Architects suspended a faceted new office volume above a retained historic fire station. The contrast between the masonry base and the glazed addition gives the port authority a distinctive identity, while the lifted form preserves a clear reading of the earlier building. Visiting: Zaha Hadid's glass extension is best seen from Mexico Island and the surrounding quays. The offices aren't open; occasional guided tours are run by Antwerp's tourism office.
