National Theatre
Denys Lasdun · London, United Kingdom · 1976
Lasdun's theatre turns the South Bank into a sequence of concrete terraces, foyers and performance spaces. Its stepped massing relates the interior circulation to the riverfront, allowing the building to operate as a public landscape. Later work by Haworth Tompkins improved facilities while retaining the original architectural character.
