Yokosuka Museum of Art

Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop · Yokosuka, Japan · 2007

Riken Yamamoto places much of the museum within the sloping coastal site and wraps the visible volume in a perforated skin. Rounded internal openings frame galleries and circulation, while views toward Tokyo Bay repeatedly reconnect the museum to its landscape. The result is unusually light and open for an art museum, combining controlled exhibition space with a strong sense of horizon, weather and sea.
