Yokohama Silk Center
Junzo Sakakura · Yokohama, Japan · 1959
Junzo Sakakura combines a podium devoted to silk-related public functions with an office tower, creating an unusually urban early postwar complex facing Yokohama's harbor district. Its concrete brise-soleil, setbacks and layered street edge show the translation of international modernism into Japan's rapidly rebuilding commercial cities.
