Yeltsin Center
BERNASKONI · Yekaterinburg, Russia · 2015
The Yeltsin Center adapts an unfinished commercial structure into a large museum, archive, conference and educational complex focused on the first president of the Russian Federation and the 1990s. BERNASKONI reorganized the inherited frame behind a new translucent façade and created a sequence of public interiors around exhibition and event spaces. The project is significant less as a singular sculptural object than as a major cultural reuse at the center of post-Soviet Yekaterinburg. Opened in 2015, it has become one of the city’s most prominent contemporary public institutions.
