Yamanashi Culture Hall

Kenzo Tange · Kofu, Japan · 1966

One of the clearest built expressions of Metabolism, the complex is organized around sixteen cylindrical service cores supporting large horizontal floor trays. Tange deliberately left portions incomplete so offices, broadcasting and newspaper functions could expand over time, making growth part of the original architectural system.
