Walden 7 turns a large housing commission into a network of towers, bridges and internal courtyards. Completed by Ricardo Bofill's studio in 1975, the building uses a red outer envelope and blue-toned inner spaces to distinguish its public image from its communal interior. Apartments are assembled within a larger system that encourages different routes and visual relationships between neighbours. Its dramatic silhouette can be read from the surrounding streets, while the courtyards express a more intimate scale. The project remains a working residential community rather than a freely accessible monument. Visiting: Private residential building. View from public space only unless residents authorize entry.
