WA Museum Boola Bardip

Hassell + OMA · Perth, Australia · 2020

WA Museum Boola Bardip combines substantial new construction with a collection of restored heritage buildings in Perth’s Cultural Centre. Hassell and OMA inserted large contemporary volumes around and above the existing fabric, using bridges, voids and a dramatic central gathering space to connect old and new. The project treats the historic structures as active parts of the museum rather than isolated artifacts. Opened in 2020, Boola Bardip is a significant Australian example of adaptive cultural architecture at urban scale and a major renewal of Western Australia’s state museum.
