Vienna State Opera

August Sicard von Sicardsburg; Eduard van der Nüll · Vienna, Austria · 1869

Sicardsburg and van der Nüll designed a monumental opera house with arcades, loggias and richly articulated facades. The building anchors Vienna’s Ringstrasse and combines a formal urban frontage with the complex circulation and performance spaces required by a major opera institution. Visiting: The Ringstrasse facade is free to see. The foyers and auditorium can be visited on paid guided tours when there are no rehearsals, or during a performance.
