Vidhana Soudha
B. R. Manickam · Bengaluru, India · 1956
Vidhana Soudha presents Karnataka's legislature through a broad composition of steps, columns and domed roof forms. Its monumental scale combines a modern governmental programme with a regional architectural vocabulary. The building's placement on a large civic site gives its central entrance and long façades a prominent role in the public image of Bengaluru. Visiting: The government seat isn't open to tourists, but the facade is free to see from Cubbon Park and the road in front. On Sundays and holidays it is lit up at night.
