Vancouver House

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) · Vancouver, Canada · 2020

Vancouver House is a residential tower shaped by one of the city’s most difficult leftover sites: a triangular parcel constrained by the Granville Street Bridge. BIG turns that constraint into the project’s identity. The tower rises from a narrow base and gradually expands into a more regular residential floor plate, producing a twisting silhouette and a strong urban marker at the bridgehead. At ground level, the project includes public realm improvements, retail, and smaller triangular buildings that activate the spaces beneath and around the bridge. Vancouver House is a strong example of how an awkward infrastructural condition can be transformed into a distinctive architectural and urban opportunity.
