Van Nelle Factory
Brinkman & Van der Vlugt · Rotterdam, Netherlands · 1931
Brinkman and Van der Vlugt used extensive glazing, exposed structural rhythms and elevated connecting bridges to organize a modern factory complex. The architecture connects daylight and working conditions with industrial efficiency, presenting production as a coordinated system of buildings rather than a single monumental block. Visiting: Now offices and event spaces. The exterior can be seen from the gate on Van Nelleweg; 60-minute walk-in tours run every Saturday and Sunday from the porter's lodge (paid, booked through the Chabot Museum).
