University Hall, University of Lethbridge

Arthur Erickson · Lethbridge, Canada · 1971

Arthur Erickson’s University Hall stretches along the edge of a coulee as an elongated concrete megastructure rather than a collection of isolated campus buildings. Teaching, offices and circulation are stacked within a continuous horizontal section, while terraces and glazing maintain views toward the dramatic prairie landscape. Completed in 1971, the building uses the terrain as an organizing device and became one of Erickson’s most important demonstrations of architecture and landscape operating as a single system.
