Tsentrosoyuz Building
Le Corbusier + Nikolai Kolli · Moscow, Russia · 1933
The Tsentrosoyuz headquarters brought Le Corbusier’s emerging large-office language to Moscow through long glazed slabs raised above parts of the site, internal ramps and a strong separation between circulation and workspace. Nikolai Kolli collaborated on the realization of the project within Soviet construction conditions. Continuous glazing and reinforced-concrete structure distinguish the complex from the heavier masonry fabric around it. Completed in the early 1930s, it is one of Le Corbusier’s largest built works of the period and a significant point of exchange between European modernism and the Soviet avant-garde.
