Towada Art Center

Ryue Nishizawa Office · Towada, Japan · 2008

Ryue Nishizawa disperses individual gallery volumes across the site rather than enclosing the museum in one large object. Glass corridors connect the rooms while courtyards and artworks occupy the gaps, allowing the city street and museum route to overlap visually. The small scale of each volume gives artists highly specific rooms and makes the building feel more like a walk through a neighborhood than a conventional museum.
