Torres de Satélite
Luis Barragán + Mathias Goeritz · Naucalpan, Mexico · 1958
Five tapering concrete towers rise beside the highway at Ciudad Satélite as an abstract urban gateway. Developed by Luis Barragán and Mathias Goeritz, the composition uses scale, color and forced perspective rather than conventional signage to mark the entrance to a new suburban development. The towers change dramatically as they are seen from moving vehicles, making speed and viewpoint part of the work. Completed in 1958, they became a landmark of Mexican modernism and of the collaboration between architecture, sculpture and urban infrastructure.
