Toronto City Hall
Viljo Revell · Toronto, Canada · 1965
Viljo Revell’s Toronto City Hall pairs two curved office towers around a low council chamber, creating an instantly recognizable composition facing Nathan Phillips Square. The concrete towers turn inward toward the civic plaza, while their outer faces are more closed and monumental. The project emerged from an international competition and gave rapidly expanding post-war Toronto a deliberately modern civic identity. Opened in 1965, the building and square remain among Canada’s most important examples of modern public architecture and urban design.
