Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building

Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura / Shiseido project team · Tokyo, Japan · 2001

The Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building presents a different type of Ginza landmark: a corporate and cultural address for one of Japan’s most important beauty companies. Associated with Ricardo Bofill’s design language and Shiseido’s own brand history, the building combines retail, gallery, dining and company functions into a vertical urban presence. Its red-toned exterior and carefully staged ground-level experience give it a recognizable identity among Ginza’s more glassy façades. The project is important because it links architecture, cosmetics, hospitality and cultural programming within a single urban building. For visitors, it is less about spectacle alone and more about how a long-established Japanese brand uses architecture to express elegance, continuity and public-facing refinement.
