Three Dikgosi Monument

Mansudae Overseas Projects · Gaborone, Botswana · 2005

The Three Dikgosi Monument commemorates Khama III, Sebele I and Bathoen I, three Tswana chiefs associated with Botswana’s political history. Monumental bronze figures stand on a broad elevated plinth within a formal civic plaza, giving the ensemble a strong axial presence in Gaborone’s central business district. Produced with North Korean sculptural and technical involvement, the project belongs to a wider network of large African state memorials constructed in the early twenty-first century. Opened in 2005, it has become one of Botswana’s most recognizable public monuments.
