The Twist, Kistefos Museum

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) · Jevnaker, Norway · 2019

The Twist at Kistefos is both a bridge, a museum gallery, and a sculptural object. Spanning a river within the Kistefos sculpture park, the building twists its rectangular section by ninety degrees, allowing one end to meet the lower riverbank and the other to connect to the higher side. This simple geometric operation creates a dramatic interior transition and a striking exterior form. The project is especially successful because its formal gesture is not decorative; it solves circulation, structure, and exhibition space simultaneously. For visitors, The Twist offers a rare sequence in which walking, viewing art, crossing water, and reading structural transformation become one continuous architectural experience.
