The Hedberg

The Hedberg combines university teaching, rehearsal and performance facilities with Hobart’s historic Theatre Royal. Liminal Studio and WOHA designed the new complex as a layered urban building with transparent public circulation, textured façades and carefully integrated connections to the heritage theatre. Internal performance spaces are acoustically isolated while foyers and stairs create visual links between music, theatre and education. Opened in 2021, the project is a significant contemporary cultural addition to central Hobart and a strong example of new architecture working directly with an existing historic institution.
