Teresa Carreño Cultural Complex
Jesús Sandoval + Tomás Lugo + Dietrich Kunckel · Caracas, Venezuela · 1983
The Teresa Carreño complex is a vast cultural megastructure containing concert, theater and public spaces within a composition of exposed-concrete terraces, ramps and monumental interior volumes. Rather than separate performance halls from the city, the architects created a layered sequence of plazas and foyers that extends public space through the building. Integrated artworks and heavy structural expression place the project firmly within Venezuela’s late-modern brutalist tradition, while its scale reflects the major cultural investment of the period.
