Tempietto di San Pietro in Montorio

Donato Bramante · Rome, Italy · 1510

Bramante compresses the ideals of High Renaissance central planning into a tiny circular martyrium surrounded by a Doric peristyle. Its unusually exact proportional system, sculptural drum and placement within the monastery courtyard make the building feel far larger conceptually than its physical dimensions.
