Tegucigalpa Cathedral
Unknown · Tegucigalpa, Honduras · 1765
Tegucigalpa Cathedral is a compact Baroque church whose twin-tower façade forms the principal architectural edge of Plaza Morazán. Thick masonry walls, a richly articulated front and gilded interior altarpieces give the building a strong ceremonial presence despite its relatively modest scale. The cathedral has endured earthquakes, repairs and urban transformation while remaining central to the historic core. Its architecture provides an important surviving reference for colonial-era building in a capital whose later development dispersed far beyond the original center.
