Sursock Museum
Unknown / Sursock family commission · Beirut, Lebanon · 1912
The Sursock Museum occupies a 1912 mansion whose architecture combines Venetian and Ottoman influences within Beirut’s Achrafieh district. Triple-arched windows, carved stone and richly finished interiors give the house an ornate domestic character that was later adapted to public exhibition use after Nicolas Sursock bequeathed it to the city. Subsequent renovations and expansions added modern museum infrastructure while retaining the historic villa as the institutional focus. Damaged in the 2020 Beirut port explosion and later restored, the museum is an important case of architectural continuity, adaptation and cultural resilience.
