Superkilen
BIG + Superflex + Topotek 1 · Copenhagen, Denmark · 2012
Superkilen is a long urban park in Nørrebro designed by BIG, Superflex, and Topotek 1. Rather than presenting public space as neutral, the project turns the neighborhood’s multicultural identity into an explicit spatial catalogue of objects, colors, and references from around the world. The park is organized into distinct zones, including the Red Square, Black Market, and Green Park, each supporting different forms of play, gathering, movement, and everyday use. Its graphic surfaces and imported urban artifacts make it both a public landscape and a social manifesto. Superkilen is especially useful for architectural visitors because it raises questions about representation, identity, and authorship in contemporary public-space design.
