Sumida Hokusai Museum

Kazuyo Sejima & Associates · Tokyo, Japan · 2016

Kazuyo Sejima breaks the museum into a faceted reflective volume cut by diagonal ground-level passages. The openings pull public routes through the building and prevent the compact museum from becoming a sealed object in its neighborhood park. Aluminum cladding shifts with the light and surrounding city, while the interior maintains the crisp, neutral spatial character associated with Sejima's work.
