SPACE Group Building
Kim Swoo-geun · Seoul, South Korea · 1971
Kim Swoo-geun’s former SPACE Group Building is a compact brick complex that became highly influential in South Korean architectural culture. Narrow passages, split levels, courtyards and carefully framed openings create an intimate sequence that contrasts with the scale of nearby palaces and later commercial development. The original 1971 building was expanded in later decades and eventually adapted as the Arario Museum in Space. Its dense spatial organization and dark masonry remain closely associated with Kim’s search for a modern Korean architectural language grounded in traditional ideas of enclosure and movement.
