Sochi Railway Station

Alexey Dushkin · Sochi, Russia · 1952

Alexey Dushkin’s present Sochi Railway Station presents transport infrastructure as a monumental gateway to the Soviet resort city. A long symmetrical composition of arcades and public halls is anchored by a tall clock tower visible across central Sochi. The station combines classical proportion, decorative detail and carefully staged arrival spaces with the practical demands of a major Black Sea railway terminus. Completed in 1952, it is one of Dushkin’s best-known above-ground buildings and a strong example of late Stalin-era architecture adapted to the climate and ceremonial identity of a resort city.
