Slovak Radio Building

Štefan Svetko + Štefan Ďurkovič + Barnabáš Kiss · Bratislava, Slovakia · 1983

The Slovak Radio Building is an inverted pyramidal structure whose steel superstructure expands upward above a more compact base. The unusual form creates a powerful urban object while allowing studios, offices and technical spaces to be stacked around a central broadcasting core. Designed by Štefan Svetko, Štefan Ďurkovič and Barnabáš Kiss, the project was developed over a long period and completed in 1983. Its exposed structure and uncompromising geometry make it one of the clearest landmarks of late Czechoslovak brutalism and one of Bratislava’s most recognizable twentieth-century buildings.
