Sedile Dominova

Unknown · Sorrento, Italy · 1400

Sedile Dominova is a compact but highly significant civic monument in the historic core of Sorrento. The open loggia once functioned as a meeting place for the city’s noble families and civic representatives, making it an architectural reminder of southern Italy’s urban political culture. Its form is modest in scale but rich in meaning: a public-facing room defined by arches, painted surfaces, and direct connection to the narrow street network. As one of the last surviving examples of this type of civic seat in the region, it gives architectural expression to local governance, family rivalry, and the semi-public life of the historic city. It is especially valuable for walking-based interpretation of Sorrento.
