Secretariat Building, Chandigarh

Le Corbusier · Chandigarh, India · 1958

The Secretariat is a long concrete office building whose repeated façade modules are interrupted by sculptural circulation and shading elements. Le Corbusier adapted the scale of a large administrative institution to the strong sun of Chandigarh. Ramps, deep screens and changes in the structural grid make the otherwise continuous slab a complex architectural composition. Visiting: Free Chandigarh Tourism guided tour with registration and photo ID. Interior access depends on the day and official activity.
