Sea Organ

Nikola Bašić · Zadar, Croatia · 2005

Nikola Bašić incorporated sound-producing pipes beneath a series of waterfront steps. Waves and air create changing tones, allowing infrastructure, public seating and musical experience to merge. The work is best understood as a civic landscape structure rather than an occupied building. Visiting: Free and always open on the Zadar waterfront. Sit on the marble steps to hear the sea play the pipes; the Greeting to the Sun light installation is beside it.
