Santo Domingo Savio Library Park (Biblioteca España)

Giancarlo Mazzanti · Medellín, Colombia · 2007

Giancarlo Mazzanti's library park placed a major public learning institution on the hillsides of Medellín. Opened in 2007, its three dark volumes became widely recognized as an architectural image of the city's investment in social infrastructure. The buildings connect with public terraces and the surrounding neighbourhood rather than standing within an isolated cultural campus. A long period of rehabilitation forms part of the project's later history. It is now officially known as the Santo Domingo Savio Library Park, with facilities reopening in phases during 2026. Visiting: Facilities reopened in phases in 2026 following rehabilitation. Consult the library operator for current access to individual buildings.
