St. Peter's Church, Klippan
Sigurd Lewerentz · Klippan, Sweden · 1966
St. Peter’s Church in Klippan is one of Sigurd Lewerentz’s final masterpieces and a touchstone for architects interested in material, craft and construction. Completed in 1966, the church uses dark brick almost obsessively: walls, vaults and floor surfaces are assembled with minimal concealment and little conventional finishing. Structure, services and details remain legible, while limited daylight gives the sanctuary a dense, contemplative atmosphere. The building’s radical directness has made it enormously influential in late modern and contemporary architectural practice.
