The Samanid Mausoleum uses patterned brickwork to give a compact cubic tomb extraordinary visual depth. Its structural and ornamental systems are closely connected, with surfaces changing as light moves across them. The small building provides a concentrated example of the architectural possibilities of brick in early Islamic Central Asia. Visiting: A small entry fee applies; the mausoleum stands in a free public park.
