Saint Benedict Chapel, Sumvitg

Peter Zumthor · Sumvitg, Switzerland · 1988

Peter Zumthor’s timber chapel uses a curved plan and a raised position on the hillside. Closely spaced structure, a restrained interior and light entering above the walls create a quiet setting for worship that draws on local building traditions without copying them literally. Visiting: Zumthor's shingled chapel above Sogn Benedetg is usually open during the day; a short uphill walk from the road.
