Safdarjung's Tomb

Architect not documented · Delhi, India · 1754

Safdarjung's Tomb reworks the Mughal garden-mausoleum tradition through a domed central building and formal axial approaches. The tomb sits within a walled garden whose paths and water channels organize the visitor's movement. Its sandstone and marble surfaces provide a useful comparison with the earlier, more extensive imperial tomb complexes of Delhi. Visiting: Entry is ticketed, with higher rates for foreign visitors.
