Royal Palace, Phnom Penh

Royal Khmer workshops · Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Phnom Penh's Royal Palace is a layered ensemble of ceremonial halls, pavilions and courtyards. Steep roofs, projecting eaves and richly finished surfaces establish a clear architectural vocabulary across buildings from different periods. The sequence of public visitor areas and restricted royal spaces reflects the complex's continuing ceremonial function. Visiting: Entry is ticketed and dress rules apply; the riverside facade and Throne Hall roofs can be seen from Sisowath Quay.
