Royal Opera House Muscat
WATG · Muscat, Oman · 2011
Royal Opera House Muscat is a large performing-arts complex that uses contemporary construction within an architectural language derived from Omani palaces and regional craft. Pale stone arcades, carved screens and landscaped forecourts create a ceremonial public approach, while the main auditorium incorporates advanced stage technology within richly detailed interiors. Opened in October 2011, the institution was the first major opera house in the Gulf and established a new cultural landmark for Muscat. Its significance lies in combining high-performance theatre infrastructure with a deliberately local representational language.
