Walsh Street House
Robin Boyd · Melbourne, Australia · 1959
Robin Boyd designed Walsh Street as his own family house and as a demonstration of a distinctly Australian modern domestic architecture. A modest street façade opens to a more complex interior organized around a central courtyard, split levels and carefully controlled views. Brick, timber and large glazed openings create a warm material character while deep overhangs and garden connections respond to Melbourne’s climate. Occupied by the Boyd family from 1959, the house remains unusually intact and is now maintained by the Robin Boyd Foundation.
