Frederick C. Robie House

Frank Lloyd Wright · Chicago, United States · 1910

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House is one of the fullest expressions of the Prairie School. Long horizontal roof planes, projecting eaves, bands of art-glass windows and a tightly integrated open interior make the house read as a continuous spatial composition rather than a collection of rooms. Completed in 1910 on a narrow Chicago lot, it demonstrates Wright’s ability to use masonry, built-in furniture and controlled views to create a distinctly American domestic modernism that strongly influenced later European architects.
