Rambam Health Campus
Chyutin Architects · Haifa, Israel · 2012
The Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa features a multi-story, fortified hospital complex designed by Chyutin Architects. Completed in 2012, its most distinctive architectural characteristic is a nine-story underground emergency hospital, the Sammy Ofer Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital. This subterranean facility is designed to operate fully independent of external infrastructure for extended periods, and can be converted into a parking garage during peacetime. Above ground, the campus integrates various medical functions within a contemporary massing, prioritizing resilience and functional efficiency. The design responds to regional security considerations, incorporating robust construction alongside adaptable urban planning principles. The facility serves as a major medical center for northern Israel, reflecting a blend of advanced healthcare provision and strategic defensive architecture.
