Porto Cruise Terminal
Luís Pedro Silva · Matosinhos, Portugal · 2015
Luís Pedro Silva's cruise terminal at Leixões uses a continuous curved geometry to organize passenger movement and establish a new landmark on the port edge. Opened in 2015, the building combines terminal functions with university-related marine research accommodation. Its pale ceramic exterior responds to light and the Atlantic setting, while ramps and terraces connect different levels. The project is particularly interesting as a negotiation between controlled port operations and the ambition for a more public waterfront. From outside the secure port area, the terminal's form can be read against breakwaters, ships and the shoreline of Matosinhos. Visiting: A working port facility. Use an authorized tour or terminal programme rather than entering port land independently.
