Patuxai combines a monumental gateway with forms and decorative references associated with Lao architecture. Large arches establish the main axes, while upper levels and roof elements give the memorial an inhabited architectural scale. The monument occupies a major civic position in Vientiane, connecting a commemorative structure with long urban approaches. Visiting: Climbing to the top is ticketed; the arch and surrounding park can be seen freely.
