Pashupatinath Temple
Traditional Newar builders · Kathmandu, Nepal
Pashupatinath is a layered temple precinct on the Bagmati River rather than an isolated monument. Pagoda roofs, shrines, courtyards and riverfront steps establish a complex relationship between architecture and continuing religious practice. The site must be read through its different access boundaries and the distinction between the principal sanctuary and surrounding public routes. Visiting: Visitor tickets cover the wider heritage precinct. Entry to the principal temple is restricted by religious eligibility rules.
