Papalote Museo del Niño
Ricardo Legorreta · Mexico City, Mexico · 1993
Papalote Museo del Niño is organized as a brightly colored collection of geometric volumes rather than a conventional institutional block. Ricardo Legorreta uses large walls, pyramidal forms, shaded courts and vivid blue tile to give the children’s museum a playful but architecturally disciplined identity. Outdoor spaces and strong transitions between sun and shade are integral to the experience. Opened in 1993, the project is a characteristic example of Legorreta translating the spatial lessons of Mexican modernism into a large public educational program.
