The Palestinian Museum

heneghan peng architects · Birzeit, Palestine · 2016

The Palestinian Museum is set into a steep terraced landscape near Birzeit, with a long stone-clad building aligned to the contours and agricultural terraces of the site. Heneghan Peng use local limestone, planted roofs and a strong linear section to connect galleries with outdoor gardens and distant views. The museum was conceived not simply as an exhibition container but as a cultural institution tied to landscape, research and dispersed Palestinian histories. Completed in 2016, the building is an important contemporary work in the West Bank and a carefully controlled example of architecture using topography and material continuity rather than iconic object form.
