Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana

Giovanni Guerrini; Ernesto Lapadula; Mario Romano · Rome, Italy · 1953

Known as the 'Square Colosseum,' the building reduces the language of the Roman arcade to a rigid six-by-nine grid wrapped around an almost cubic volume. Designed for the planned 1942 universal exposition and completed after the war, it is one of the clearest architectural emblems of EUR and of Italian monumental rationalism.
